PROFILE: Green Gulch Farm Zen Center

(The following profile is part of an ongoing series to explore inspirational stories of healing and education centers and retreats with aspirations similar to those of The Bend Center.  Further information can be found at the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center website)

Nestled in the idyllic Marin hills north of San Francisco lies a Buddhist practice center in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition.  Known as the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center (as well as the Green Dragon Temple), it is one of three centers that make up the San Francisco Zen Center (City Center, Green Gulch and Tassajara).

The Green Gulch Center offers training in Zen meditation, guest speakers, a conference center, guest cottages, retreat programs, work programs and an organic farm and garden, which sells produce and vegetables at Farmers Markets in the area (during the May-Oct season).  When one walks the grounds of Green Gulch, the tranquility and peacefulness of the place belies the fact that you are only a few miles north of the bustling metropolis of San Francisco and its surrounding environs.  There is not just the physical beauty of the place that supports this sense, but also the spiritual feeling that comes with the presence of the practicing Zen community that lives on its grounds.

Facilities for conferences, seminars, workshops and retreats are offered to companies and organizations that may want to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings and peaceful atmosphere.  A calendar offers a variety of classes from bread making and calligraphy to helping business people apply Buddhist principles in the work place.  Interested persons can sign up and register online and classes typically cost less than $100 each (discounted, if member or limited income).  Limited overnight accommodations are simple and clean with reservation availability checked online and contacting 415.383.3134 to reserve.  The Green Gulch Farm Zen Center is worth a special trip if you find yourself north of San Francisco Bay.  It has such a sense of peace there and as a special bonus, it's less than a mile walk to Muir Beach!  Additional photos can be seen here...     Blessings on this day,  Jeremiah

Posting Comments

The Google 'Blogger' platform we use for The Bend Center doesn't always make it easy for the reader to post comments.  Google requires that you have a Gmail account in order to log-in, post comments and 'author' posts (if you have that permission level).  If you have another email account, you can still read our blog but you just can't comment on it.  Silly, proprietary nonsense- I know!

So, in order to encourage collaborative discussion, please contribute your feedback and discussion.  Just remember to: 1)  Log-in with your Gmail information, 2) Click on the title of the actual post you want to comment on (which will bring up the post itself, along with a 'Comment' data field), & 3) Write in your comment and use your Google account information as your 'Profile', then publish!

I always 'Preview' my comments before posting to identify misspellings, grammatical errors and the like.  I encourage you to do the same.     Jeremiah

Book Suggestion

Hi Everyone!

I am not sure what the business model looks like for our healing center, but I started reading a book yesterday (which was recommended to me last year) called "Delivering Happiness" by Tony Hsieh and I think it has good business tips within its pages. This was written by the CEO of Zappos who was actually a VERY SUCCESSFUL self-made business man before he was 25...

It's a very easy, quick read in which he lays out business ideas that worked and some that didn't, and how he and friends set out to create a fulfilling way to generate income in our world.

He uses humor to tell his story and makes some good suggestions for creating a new business fueled by passion and purpose.

I really think everyone in our group should read this book.

Have a lovely weekend,
Currie
